We are Bethlehem Covenant

Bethlehem Covenant is an organization established in August 2020, by means of addressing the educational, socio-emotional and physical needs of children living in underprivileged communities, as is the case at Ngozi Mine-the Bulawayo City dumpsite.

Our book club was founded as an after- school programme at the Ngozi Mine community, characterized by high illiteracy, teenage pregnancies, drug abuse and crime. Ngozi Mine is located approximately 17 kilometers away from the city center in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Settled around the perimeter of the dump site is a large population of about 200 families made up of underprivileged citizens who find income by recycling waste material from the dump.

About Us

Education is the first step for people to gain the knowledge, critical thinking, empowerment and skills they need to make this world a better place – Nelson Mandela

The book Club was established at Ngozi Mine to help the many children residing there in reading through the introduction of a library, assist in their school homework and to help widen their horizons by introducing them to computer technology, going for educational trips as well as activities that expose them to wider opportunities in life. Many of the children are from deprived backgrounds and it has been observed that many end up resorting to crime, drug abuse, early sexual activities, etc. The Book club will help mitigate these social ills and contribute to the development of wholesome citizens and unlock the immense potential of the children.
